Flight of the Canadians. “Canadian investors swooped into the Phoenix real estate market like hawks during the Great Recession.” Lately, though, there’s been a significant reverse migration. PHOENIX magazine notes that April saw “the number of home sales to Canadian buyers in Maricopa and Pinal counties hit the lowest level” in nearly 10 years. Tap on to find out why. http://bit.ly/2NxbJUW

Most expensive home sales in Phoenix. Arizona Foothills Magazine top home sales 6.25.18 — 7.1.18 totaled “over $32 million,” a SPIKE of some 6 million from the previous week! Impressive! However, to put a different spin on it, it’s a figure that still falls well short of the total number of Trump administration resignations. Among our favorite difficult-to-discern features in this installment: A “game room off the pool,” and “an eat-at-bar island.” http://bit.ly/2lVaOkm

Carefree water meeting draws a crowd. With customers in Carefree getting water from Cave Creek, “there have been concerns about having an assured water supply.” Sonoran News reports that “should something happen to the pipeline… there may be only a day’s worth of water stored.” And that was just one of the issues covered during a recent “presentation on water” before a packed house at Carefree Town Council Chambers.—> http://bit.ly/2KTtJXC

Visual corridors: Paradise Valley council hopefuls talk planning parameters. As part of its continuing series, PV Independent talks with five candidates — the sole mayoral candidate along with four hopefuls seeking one council seat — to get their views on “both the General Plan and new provisions meant to protect visually significant corridors of the community.” http://bit.ly/2MQgw2v

Estrada wants to ‘cultivate growth’ for Casa Grande. Andy Estrada “currently serves on the Planning and Zoning Commission,” and is “seeking a seat on the City Council.” Among the issues, Estrada discusses in CG Dispatch’s “second in a series of articles profiling candidates” are: Taxes, development impact fees, city marketing, public safety, and city management. http://bit.ly/2KBbAlo

Weddings, events business gets Coconino County’s nod as Frontiere property operator. “The county has been looking for someone to manage and operate part of the [20-acre] property with a revenue-sharing model.” Last week, the county found what it was looking for when BOS “gave the go-ahead” for “staff to pursue contract negotiations with an entity” that would use the property as “a venue for weddings and other special events like retreats and meetings.” Arizona Daily Sun. http://bit.ly/2lWCOnH

Population migration patterns: U.S. cities Americans are abandoning. “Among the cities where people are leaving in droves are places such as Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, New York, and Los Angeles.” And there were enough folks that said ‘so long’ to one southern Arizona locale, it ALSO made the list. Group that seeks to shine light on ‘dirty money’ submits signatures for ballot measure. However, “the campaign is likely to have stiff opposition from business groups and others who now put money into political races knowing that Arizona law allows them to shield the names of their donors from public scrutiny,” reports Cap Media Services’ Howard Fischer. (RELATED, also in Arizona Cap Times: “Effort to legalize recreational marijuana falls short of needed signatures,” and from KTAR: “Signatures are filed, but fight is far from over for Invest in Ed supporters.”) http://bit.ly/2u0MguQ
