While the state remains parched in a 20-year drought, the outlook for Florence’s water supply is good.
Without sounding any alarms or calling for conservation, Florence residents are already doing a decent job of saving water. The average residential account uses 3,416 gallons per month, which represents an 18-percent decline since 2012, according to the town’s recent water and wastewater rate study.
“We’re not into a critical water shortage in Florence per se,” Florence Town Councilman John Anderson said. “On the state average overall, we are using less water than we did 10 years ago per capita. There are several things that are attributable to that. One is we have more efficient appliances in our homes. … Everything is more efficient than it was 10 years ago.”
