Since the city’s expanded sign-free zone went into effect on July 26, the city has removed 43 political signs, said city spokesperson Jessica Drum.

Drum said the vast majority of signs in violation of the code have been for candidates running for state and federal positions rather than local campaigns or candidates. She said the signs removed also have been found fairly evenly around the city and there was no one place that seemed to attract political signs.

As with any city code, Drum said, the ultimate goal is to educate people so they do not violate the code to begin with, and the majority of campaigns have been informed of the expanded sign-free zone.

“Enforcement is working,” Drum said. “We’ve been seeing a decrease (in the number of signs) even over 10 days.”
