Whether the local water utility company can continue servicing San Tan Valley unchallenged could be up in the air.
Arizona Corporation Commission staff has filed a recommendation that the commission hold a hearing to consider revoking Johnson Utilities’ certificates of convenience and necessity.
The certificates of convenience and necessity allow a company, in this case Johnson Utilities, to operate a public service like a water utility as a monopoly.
In Arizona, the Corporation Commission has the authority to grant these certificates, and companies wishing to operate a public service must apply for them.
