There is too much schedule remaining to make pronouncements about the Diamondbacks’ fate, too many games still to be played against the teams they trail. But after getting trounced by the Colorado Rockies on Monday night, it’s clear their vital signs are waning. And even they’re not denying it.
Earlier in the day, General Manager Mike Hazen spoke of a need for his team to “flip the script” on the way the season is trending, with this four-game series against the first-place Rockies serving as a chance to pull themselves back into the thick of the National League West. Instead, the Diamondbacks continued to fly headfirst down the stairs.
“Right now, we’re just not doing enough,” second baseman Daniel Descalso said after a 13-2 loss at Coors Field. “We’re not doing enough offensively. We’re not doing enough to limit the other team from scoring runs. We’re just not doing enough to win ballgames. We need to change that fast or this is going to get away from us.”
BOX SCORE: Rockies 13, Diamondbacks 2
