This summer, the Phoenix City Council lost two members and gained two new ones.
Daniel Valenzuela and Kate Gallego resigned to run in the November mayoral election to replace former Mayor Greg Stanton, who resigned at the end of May to run for Congress.
The council appointed Vania Guevara and Felicita Mendoza to fill the open council seats after heated discussions about the fairness of the appointment process.
They will serve until new council members are elected. That election is scheduled for March, with a possible runoff election in May.
