After an arduous road trip in which the Diamondbacks lost valuable ground in their quest for a postseason spot, the club probably wanted nothing more than to play for its own fans.

But as the Diamondbacks opened a six-game homestand with a game against the Chicago Cubs on Monday at Chase Field, that’s not what they got.

Instead, they played against a crowd painted blue and openly rooting for the visitors, who opened the three-game series with a 5-1 victory over the Diamondbacks.

BOX SCORE:  Cubs 5, Diamondbacks 1
