At least two businesses in the Flagstaff Mall have had their leases suddenly terminated, seemingly without having violated their lease in any way. Xcape Flagstaff, which had escape rooms and glow-in-the-dark miniature golf, and the retail business Teaching and Learning Stuff were both sent letters this month telling them to move out.

According to Glenn Miller, a spokesperson for Cypress Equities, which owns the mall, the termination of these tenant agreements “are necessary to accomplish our goals in redeveloping the shopping center.”

“As the company stated when Cypress first acquired Flagstaff Mall in early 2017, ‘the owner will explore re-demising and/or repurposing select inline retail space to maximize value and usage,’” Miller wrote in an email. “Flagstaff Mall remains committed to providing northern Arizona communities with an exciting destination that serves the shopping, dining and entertainment needs of its patrons. While it is too early to release any plans, we are very excited about the direction we are going with more unique food and beverage concepts, entertainment and retail offerings. We hope to share more details of the mall’s redevelopment plans in the very near future.”
