Former Phoenix mayor and congressional candidate Greg Stanton was robbed by a man wielding a weapon outside of a restaurant Saturday night, officials said.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Armando Carbajal said Stanton was approached by a man as he left Thai Rama restaurant near Camelback Road and 15th Avenue at about 10 p.m. Saturday.

At some point, Stanton became aware the man was carrying what Carbajal described as a “hatchet-type” weapon. It wasn’t clear whether the attacker actually threatened Stanton with the weapon, but he did manage to get away with Stanton’s wallet and some cash.
After the robbery, Stanton went back into the restaurant and police were called, Carbajal said.
