Glendale considers annexing 17 acres near Loop 303

This aerial photo shows the 17 acres of county property Glendale is considering annexing. The property is adjacent to 164 acres of already-annexed land, forming a C-shaped island of Glendale land among county property. The 17 acres is planned to be added to the 55 acres north of Maryland Avenue, forming the north part of the “C,” to develop a 1.1 million-square-foot logistics center. / Submitted photo / YourValley.net

Glendale is considering adding 17 acres near Loop 303 to the city. The property currently contains four homes but is planned to be  combined with existing land and developed into a 1.1 million-square-foot logistics center.

The city council postponed the vote on the annexation from last Tuesday to Tuesday, Nov. 11, because council members did not feel city staff had provided enough information to make a decision.

“Annexation should be, I think a fair exchange for what’s going to offset the cost to the taxpayer — the public safety and other things that we’re going to be required to provide — we need to know what kind of revenues and economic development we’re going to be able to expect on this piece of property, and we don’t have any of that information tonight,” Vice Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff said in the Tuesday, Oct. 9 Council meeting.
