Scottsdale schools talks rebuilding amid shrinking student enrollment

Scottsdale’s schools have about 4,800 fewer students than its 27,214-student peak in 2002 and are projected to shrink further over the next decade.

The Scottsdale Unified School District has enrolled just more than 22,000 students this school year and the count is projected to dip to just more than 20,000 in 2026, an Applied Economics enrollment study projects.

Reasons range from birth rates reaching record lows, a maturing community with higher-priced homes that attract older families and growing competition from charter and private schools.
