Maricopa County held a public meeting last week regarding its intent to update the nearly 20-year-old New River Area Plan, which sets policy and guidelines for a specific area’s future growth and development, while taking the unique conditions of the specific community into consideration.
Maricopa County staff facilitated the meeting answering questions and taking comments during a live poll from residents who attended, which will be used to help guide county planners while creating a replacement for the 1999 New River Area Plan.
“There have been a lot of changes since 1999,” Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates of District 3 said, while addressing the crowd of well over 100 residents attending the meeting. “We want to grow, but in the right way.”
