Florence’s hopes for a future Innovation Pavilion campus have dimmed as the company has been unresponsive recently and a business news website reported it has shut down.
Still, the town said in a statement that Florence “remains committed to the concept of innovation, and ultimately toward becoming a ‘smart city,’” and partnerships developed through Innovation Pavilion have already proven successful and have provided invaluable results toward that end. A “smart city” is typically one that uses technology to increase efficiencies, share information and improve services.
The town’s statement said the local school district’s plans for a STEM (science, technology, entrepreneurship and mastery, in IP’s model) school at Florence K-8 will continue.
