A community like Scottsdale that has achieved so many big things like the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Indian Bend Wash, an energetic downtown, huge special events and impressive arts programs seemingly always asks itself about its next big thing.
Indeed, the city just finished debating a big idea, the proposed Desert Discovery Center. It tore the community apart and infected the body politic like few issues before.
While I strongly opposed that project and found its merit lacking, that is not the point of writing now.
It’s to point out that the next big thing could be a variation of addition by subtraction.
