Surprise Mayor Sharon Wolcott announced her resignation Tuesday.
Wolcott told the City Council that the growing northwest Valley city has changed for the better since she was elected seven years ago, and she believes now is a good time to step down.
Wolcott, who was not on Tuesday’s ballot, said she would turn in her resignation letter Wednesday morning and her last day will be Nov. 16.
In an advance interview with The Arizona Republic, Wolcott said she is newly married and hoping to spend more time with her husband and travel. Her husband lives in the Tucson area.
