The pending location of two automobile plants was chosen as Pinal County’s top story of 2018.
Lucid Motors announced two years ago that it would build a plant to manufacture electric cars on the west side of Casa Grande. After some delays, the project took a big jump forward in September with the announcement the startup company had obtained a major investment from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Also during the year, Nikola Motor Company announced plans for a hydrogen and electric truck plant in Coolidge. Lucid and Nikola have stated an intention to hire about 2,000 people each, meaning a massive change in the economy of the county.
Other employers either have located in Pinal recently or are exploring plans to do so.
