City and county officials are gearing up for the 2020 census following the recent release of population estimates by the state.
Population numbers are important for local governments because the number of people often translate into federal dollars for the municipalities, which presently sits at about $1,900 per person. Because of that, officials say, it’s important to get an accurate head count.
The city of Casa Grande has begun the process of creating a complete count committee, which will be responsible for ensuring residents understand the importance of the census.
Steven Turner, assistant to the city manager, is spearheading the city’s efforts. He said the city currently is selecting a committee, about 30 residents, who will help get the word out about the importance of the census.
