Counsel representing Pinal County has formally filed a notice to appeal a judge’s ruling that declared its new voter-approved excise tax is “illegal.”
Joseph Kanefield, a Phoenix attorney representing Pinal County, said he filed a notice to appeal on Friday, hoping to reverse a Maricopa County judge’s decision last month against Proposition 417.
Voters narrowly passed the initiative last year by 901 votes, creating a new half-cent sales tax to generate funds for transportation projects throughout Pinal County.
