Glendale to regulate sober living homes while waiting for statewide policy

Glendale is on its way to adopting regulations for sober living homes in the city, which will be in place until the state enacts its planned regulations that could take up to 18 months.

The ordinance would require sober living homes to register with the city, have its staff background checked and adhere to rules laid out by the city meant to protect the health and safety of the residents as well as neighbors to the homes.

“We do lack regulations for these types of homes and this type of business,” said Ocotillo Councilman Jamie Aldama. “People are at very vulnerable states when they’re visiting this type of places, and they deserve to be treated not only fairly, but under regulations that protect their rights.”
