As the old saying goes, “It’s not about what you know, it’s about who you know.” No one understands that better today than Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver.

Despite having a basketball team that has played miserably for years, Sarver was able to get the city of Phoenix to go in on a deal to give Talking Stick Resort Arena a $230 million facelift.

After the city council delayed the first vote on the multimillion-dollar deal in December, it appeared the Suns were in trouble. At least three councilmembers publicly vowed not to vote for it. With the council down a member, the deal could have died on a 4-4 tie.
