Mesa to auction prime piece of pristine desert

City officials plan to auction 132 acres of pristine desert in northeast Mesa for what they say could become another Las Sendas.

The city bought the large piece of scenic land around Thomas and Recker roads 20 years ago for a district park after voters approved a $4 million bond issue.

The move didn’t sit well with former City Council candidate and Red Mountain Ranch resident Verl Farnsworth – who accused the city of betraying a promise to residents that the property would become a park someday.
