Surprise residents might soon get something they have wanted for years: a Costco.
Costco is moving forward with a project in Surprise, according to a Mike Dobrota, a vice president for the real estate company that manages Costco locations, Northwest Atlantic.
City officials aren’t officially confirming that Costco is coming just yet, and neither is Costco. The retailer could change its mind between now and the ribbon cutting.
But the confirmation that the retail giant is planning to come is the first step in fulfilling the hopes of thousands of Surprise residents who have been telling city officials for years that Costco is the retailer they want to see most in the northwest Valley suburb.
“If Costco does come,” Surprise Mayor Skip Hall said on Friday evening, “it would be a great retail success for the city of Surprise, and the residents of Surprise. It has been one of our priorities as a city to attract them for quite a long time.”
