Don Diamond, original Suns’ investor and Tucson developer, dies at 91

Donald Diamond, a prominent Tucson landowner, developer and one of the original members of the ownership group that brought the Phoenix Suns into the NBA more than 50 years ago, died Monday at the age of 91.

Diamond, who was chairman of Tucson-based Diamond Ventures Inc., was one of the largest landowners in Pima County and one of Arizona’s most influential businessman over the past 50 years.

Diamond was born in New York, but attended the University of Arizona in the late 1940s, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

He launched his career working on Wall Street, before heading to Arizona in the mid-1960s, where he began establishing himself as a real estate investor and entrepreneur.
