New Flagstaff zoning manager faces long list of council land use wants

After a nearly two-year vacancy, the city of Flagstaff has a new zoning manager.

Dan Symer was hired by the city in late 2018, not a moment too soon for Flagstaff City Council, for which issues of zoning and land use have been at the top of many councilmember’s priorities.

As Symer begins his job, the city is in the middle of developing or updating two neighborhood plans and there is continued council interest in taking a second look at how the zoning code deals with large, and often student-focused, development projects.
