The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office is asking the attorney general to determine if a former lawmaker has violated a state law that bars legislators from lobbying within a year of leaving office.

Republican Todd Clodfelter of Tucson lost a re-election bid last year for his seat in District 10 in the House.

After a nasty dispute at the Legislature last year over a so-called “blow-dry bill” that would have partially deregulated some salon services, he re-formed a nonprofit group he started a few years prior called the Arizona Cosmetology Association, according to organizational documents filed with the state.

The aim of the group is to prevent bills at the Legislature like the blow-dry bill that cosmetologists oppose.

The ACA uses a firm called Tag Team Strategies, formed by Clodfelter and his wife, Karla. The husband and wife have owned multiple cosmetology businesses, including a Fantastic Sam’s salon in Tucson.
