Haunted hotel project in 101-year-old Peoria building is creeping along

The dilapidated Edwards Hotel in Old Town Peoria was supposed to come back to life as a haunted hotel by the end of 2018, but plans to reinvigorate the city’s first hotel are taking a little longer.

When property owner Dan Halbert announced he would turn the 101-year-old building into a haunted hotel — even though the property off 83rd Avenue and Washington Street didn’t have a reputation of being haunted — he championed the idea of preserving history.

“Arizona has plenty of land, but we don’t have enough historic buildings. So the value is in the building,” he told The Arizona Republic at the time. “And we gotta save that one.”

Since then, progress has been slow.
