The Mesa City Council approved rezoning last night for 67.5 acres off the Loop 202 near Ellsworth and Elliot roads for a planned technology and industrial park.

Sunbelt Holdings has plans for a project called the Mesa Elliot Technology Park West north of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

The Mesa council approved a request by Sunbelt to rezone the vacant land from residential to industrial uses. Sunbelt has plans for a first development phase of 18.56 acres, according to documents filed with the city of Mesa.

Mesa, which is already home to an Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) data center operations, is hoping to attract more technology jobs and companies to areas near the airport.
