Urban Axes eyeing June opening for ax-throwing bar in downtown Phoenix adding to Warehouse District mix

Urban Axes — a bar concept which combines ax throwing with socializing  — is eyeing a June opening date for a new location in downtown Phoenix’s Warehouse District.

The Phoenix City Council will consider Urban Axes liquor license application at its Wednesday meeting.

Urban Axes is opening its Phoenix location at 402 South First Street. Its liquor license application says it want to open its Phoenix location in June.

Urban Axes also has locations in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Houston, Austin, Cincinnati, Boston and Durham, North Carolina.

The Warehouse District is south of Talking Stick Resort Arena and Chase Field in the Warehouse District. The area of old warehouse buildings has drawn redevelopment and adaptive reuse interest in recent years.

The Duce bar and restaurant is located in the area long with architecture firms Gould Evans and CCBG as well as advertising and marketing firm R&R Partners. Arizona State University has arts programs based in the warehouse area. Tech firm WebPT and high-tech coworking space Galvanize are also located there.
