Bay Area exodus sparks Phoenix rallying cry: ‘Time to get out’

Phoenix’s economic development roadmap runs through the Bay Area — literally. 

The Greater Phoenix Economic Council plans to have 24 cars hit the road, driving through tech corridors throughout the Bay Area. The cars will feature banner ads that read: “#CAstruggles are Real! TimeToGetOut.io

“People have been leaving California for some time, but this is a new chapter in the exodus,” the Phoenix council’s president and CEO Chris Camacho told the San Francisco Business Times. “We’re in the early innings of the exodus.”

Asked what he sees driving Bay Area residents out of the Golden State, he had a long list: federal tax reform, gross receipts tax, the nation’s highest state income tax and excessive regulation.
