The Phoenix City Council is scheduled to vote Wednesday on a measure to ban feeding pigeons.

The city ordinance would make feeding pigeons a misdemeanor. Violators could face fines between $150 and $2,500.

City officials worry about pigeons impacts on commercial and residential buildings if they congregate in large numbers. Pigeons are common in downtown Phoenix and other parts of the region.

Some other big cities in the U.S. and Europe have or have considered restrictions on feeding pigeons and other birds.
