Beyond Google: Mesa looks at development plans next to Cubs ballpark, Fiesta Mall, U.S. 60

A slate of large development plans is being considered in Mesa. The projects are on top of the $1 billion Google data center deal the Mesa City Council will consider for farmland at Elliot and Sossaman roads today. The Mesa City Council will also be looking at three development proposals at its upcoming meeting Monday and then July 8.

Fiesta Village:

W.M. Grace Development wants to build new apartments and commercial space to a shuttered shopping center at Southern Avenue and Alma School Road. The 16-acre Fiesta Village site is north of Fiesta Mall. Development plans call for 220 apartments.

Bella Encanta:

The Mesa City Council will also consider zoning and development plans for Bella Encanta. That is 33 acres, 221-unit residential development near the U.S. 60 freeway and Crismon Road.

Bela Flor Communities wants to build for-sale duplex homes ranging between 1,100 and 2,200 square feet

Mesa city staff back City Council approval but the Planning and Zoning Commission deadlocked 3-3 on the project.

Union at Riverview:

The City Council is also slated to hear a presentation on the Union at Riverview development next to the Chicago Cubs spring training ballpark. The 27-acre property at the Mesa Riverview development and the Cubs’ Sloan Park. The Class A office development is being built by Lincoln Property Co. and Harvard Investments. Mesa picked the developers last year for the project.
