As Pinal County touts its “tech corridor” of 21st century businesses, Florence expects to be included.
With no nearby interstate highway and no rail line, it’s “folly” for Florence to pursue manufacturing and warehousing jobs, Town Manager Brent Billingsley said. “Florence has to determine what its niche is,” and with its Smart City initiatives, “we want to be the heart of the tech corridor,” Billingsley told attendees at the town’s cybersecurity symposium June 19.
Smart Cities is a term for those that use technologies to achieve improved efficiencies and customer service. One of the town’s recent Smart City moves was the purchase of an electronic water metering system for $1.8 million last month.
