Land annexation could lead to 1,200 new homes, new big development in East Valley

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

Efforts are afoot in Mesa to annex 162.4 acres near Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport for the planned Avalon Crossing development.

Avalon Crossing, which is south of the Eastmark development, could have as many as 1,200 new homes.

The land near Williams Field and Signal Butte roads is currently unincorporated farmland. Pacific Proving LLC wants to annex the undeveloped land, and have it rezoned for residential and commercial development.

The land currently has a county farming zoning designation.

Pacific Proving bought 1,800 acres from General Motors in 2004. That land was part of the old GM Proving Ground.

Annexation and zoning plans are before Mesa’s Planning and Zoning Board today.
