Mesa looks at banning feeding pigeons, doves; increasing fines nuisance fines and new rules for RV parking

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Mesa is considering a new ban on feeding pigeons and doves as well as new rules related to RV parking and property maintenance. Mesa is also looking at increasing fines for violating nuisance ordinances.

The Mesa City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the new nuisance rules at its August 26 meeting.

The updated rules require property owners to post their address so it can be seen from the street.

The city is also looking at updating RV parking rules. Those new rules would allow one RV parking space or storage area per residence and require a 6-foot opaque fence or gate.

Other RVs would only be able to park 48 hours at a time at a property for loading, unloading or cleaning.

If approved, Mesa would join Phoenix, Las Vegas, Albuquerque and Salt Lake City in banning the feeding of pigeons.

Mesa is also looking at increasing the fines for nuisance violations. The first offense would go from $150 to $250.

That would be the same as Scottsdale’s

$250 nuisance fine but more than other Valley cities such as Gilbert ($100), Chandler ($180), Tempe ($214) and Glendale ($100).
