The Tempe City Council voted this week to move forward with a development deal for city owned land at the Pier 202 site at Scottsdale Road and Rio Salado Parkway.

The lands total 11 acres and is on the south bank of Tempe Town Lake. That area has seen significant new development.

The Council voted to for city managers to negotiate exclusively with South Pier Tempe Holdings LLC to purchase or lease the lakefront site.

South Pier Tempe was the only bidder in a Tempe request for proposals (RFP) for the site. Part of the RFP requirements was for bidders to control or be able to acquire adjacent private parcels.

Tempe would like to see the Pier 202 site developed into a mixed-use campus with Class A office space, a hotel and residential units.

The land has long been eyed for development.
