The city of Phoenix and Fry’s Food Stores have picked Arizona artist Margaret Dewar to create a large mural at the new Fry’s store opening in downtown Phoenix at the Block 23 development.
Margaret Dewar, a cofounder of the Mural Mice Universal art collective, will be paid $10,000 to paint a 10-foot wide by 10-feeet high mural.
She was among 32 artists to applied to paint the mural. The Fry’s store is scheduled to open on October 23. The development will also include offices and apartments. RED Development is building the downtown project with Streetlights Residential as the multifamily partner.
The mural for the new Fry’s Downtown draws upon historical imagery from the nearby community and celebrates the diverse landscape and wildlife of the
“Dewar was chosen because of her attention to detail, exciting color palette and her depiction of downtown Phoenix through time,” said Bo Wachendorf, interor designer for Kroger, Fry’s parent company.
“The mural for the new Fry’s Downtown draws upon historical imagery from the nearby community and celebrates the diverse landscape and wildlife of the Sonoran Desert.
