The city of Tempe is looking at creating a new Tempe Maker District area near Priest Drive, Southern Avenue and Broadway Road.

The area totals 1 square mile or approximately 600 acres.

The goal is to zone and brand the Maker District to help attract more creative, innovative manufacturing, supply chain and other companies as well as redevelopment of existing properties some of which are older industrial buildings.

The Tempe City Council will hear about the planned district and zoning changes to allow for and encourage more adaptive reused, mixed-use developments and new office, residential and live/work projects. The area is currently zoned for more industrial uses.
