Last week was huge for Carter Unger.

The Scottsdale Planning Commission gave approvals to Unger’s big SouthBridge development plans in Old Town Scottsdale on Aug. 29. Unger, who is president of Spring Creek Development, gave us a behind the scenes look his very long and important day including thoughts about his family and his late father Fred Unger who passed away last year and had envisioned the SouthBridge project along the Scottsdale Waterfront.

6:00 a.m.: Try to wake up, Coffee, still tired, more coffee, kiss kids and wish I was there more. Wife gets them off to school.

7:30 a.m.: Head to WestWorld, discuss future bookings and exciting new events.

10:30 a.m.: Review stipulations and deal points for Development Agreement with COS, it seems it is all coming together, been a long time and feels surreal to be close to an end of entitlements.

11:00 a.m.: Interview with media regarding SouthBridge Village and the Planning Commission later that night. Great talk, feel blessed to have such active journalists covering our city and all that’s happening.

12:45 p.m.: Have to fuel up, take out order at Crisp Pizza (best pizza place in Old Town) , more coffee….on ice, its hot.

1:30 p.m. Speak with Old Town merchants and gain further support for project. It’s all about people, have to get this right.

2:20 p.m: Tell wife it is going to be a long night and thank her for always having food and a hug ready for when I get home.

3:00 p.m.: Discuss exciting public art additions to the area with a special focus on the Bob Parks Fountain and the leaders that brought it to Scottsdale.

3:30 p.m.: Stomach starting to get butterflies. Big night tonight….

4:00 p.m.: Show up to Planning Commission, starts at 1700 but have to be ready.
