Dallas and Phoenix have added the most construction jobs over the past 12 months while New York and Chicago lost the most positions, according to October numbers from the Associated General Contractors.
The industry group looked at construction jobs in U.S. metro areas between October 2018 and October 2019.
The Dallas metro area added the most construction jobs in that 12-month time frame with 14,300 new positions. That is a 10 percent gain.
Metro Phoenix added the second most jobs gaining 9,800 construction workers the past 12 months. That equates to an 8 percent gain. The Valley’s construction employment base stands at 138,300 workers, according to AGC.
Los Angeles (9,700 new construction jobs), Las Vegas (8,000 jobs) and Tampa-St. Petersburg (5,900) round out the top five for the most construction jobs gained the last 12 months.
On the flip side, New York (-6,200), Chicago (-4,700) and Riverside-San Bernardino (-3,100) lost the most construction jobs among U.S. metro areas the past 12 months, according to AGC.
