U.S. Sen. Martha McSally abruptly ended questions from reporters on Friday after a single query about issues involved in the House impeachment inquiry.

The Arizona Republican clearly wanted to talk about her efforts to boost research on Alzheimer’s disease, the subject of a rare congressional hearing held in Scottsdale.

Instead, President Donald Trump’s growing problems on Capitol Hill with House Democrats drove her to walk away.

Asked whether she “would be willing to ask a foreign country to dig up political dirt on your opponent,” as Democrats say Trump sought from Ukraine, McSally balked.

“The House is doing what they’re doing. In the meantime, the Senate is doing our work in order to do what matters for Arizonans,” she said as her staff helped lead her away from the media.
