Mesa City Council is expected to vote soon to annex nearly 1,000 acres of state-owned land into the city as part of an effort to develop a 1,200-acre mixed-use development that is expected to create 55,000 jobs in Mesa.

Dairy farmer Jim Boyle Jr. is working with a group of adjacent dairy farmers whose farms are near state land to sell their properties toward developing a 1,200-acre master-planned community in Mesa

Called Hawes Crossing, the development is composed of existing dairy farms and Arizona State Land Department property.
