Mesa City Council is expected to vote soon to annex nearly 1,000 acres of state-owned land into the city as part of an effort to develop a 1,200-acre mixed-use development that is expected to create 55,000 jobs in Mesa.

On Oct. 23, Mesa’s Planning and Zoning Board took the first step forward by approving the project. A date has not yet been set for the City Council vote on annexation.
Called Hawes Crossing, the development is composed of existing dairy farms and Arizona State Land Department property.
