Chandler officials celebrated the opening of the city’s first full-service Marriott hotel this month that brought more than 260 rooms to the bustling Price Road employment corridor.
Another hotel, an Extended Stay America with 136 rooms, opened just west of downtown on Monday.
Across U.S. 60 in Tempe, three hotels are going up that will add nearly 750 rooms in the next two years, and more are planned.
Tourism officials in both cities say the area southeast of Phoenix is experiencing a development boom as they cater to a growing number of business travelers in addition to seasonal visitors in town for mega-events such as spring training and the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
