Major changes proposed for Surprise’s first neighborhood

This isn’t the first time bulldozers and new buildings have come to Surprise’s original neighborhood.

The city has approached this community, known as the Original Town Site, time and time again in the past couple of decades with plans in hand.

This neighborhood, near where Grand Avenue intersects with Greenway Road, doesn’t look like the rest of Surprise.

It’s historically Hispanic, and many families live in houses from the 1950s that have been passed down for generations. Many live in poverty.
