North Central Phoenix house saved from demolition, for now

In a rare move, the Phoenix City Council voted to grant historic preservation to a North Central Phoenix home against the will of the homeowner. 

The decision came as a long-awaited victory for an active group of North Central Phoenix neighbors who have been fighting to protect the 100-year-old house near Glendale and Central avenues since April. 

But the homeowners — who believe the 1.3-acre lot is more valuable without the aging house — plan to take the city to court over the decision.
