Phoenix looks to improve housing access for residents with disabilities

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Phoenix is looking to improve housing options for disabled residents.

The Phoenix City Council will be briefed today and could vote to move forward on having city staff issue a new request for proposals (RFP) for nonprofit housing groups who can help make more housing units more accessible and hospitable to low and moderate income residents with disabilities.

The RFP would be issued in conjunction with the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Rehab for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The program totals $100,000 and is funded by CDBG, an arm of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. No city funds are slated to spent, according to council documents.

If approved, the RFP will be issued January 31 with grants scheduled to be awarded by the Council in April.
