Inside the Phoenix warehouse that the Format’s Sam Means is restoring

Sam Means has never been just a musician, even when he was half of the hit Peoria-born band the Format in the 2000s and later as a solo artist.

He extended his creative spirit into graphic design, designing merchandise and websites for the Format and other bands. After his band announced their hiatus in 2008, Means launched a merchandising company called Hello Merch in Phoenix and last year bought a warehouse south of downtown Phoenix to rehabilitate for his business operations.

Now nearly 12 years old, Hello Merch calls itself “an outlet for bands, musicians, creative artists and businesses to manufacture and sell merchandise anywhere, without giving up their rights which bounced from one location to another,” according to its website.
