Arizona State has revamped its plan for a new multi-purpose arena, now no longer tied into a renovation of Desert Financial Arena and to be located in a new location.
ASU submitted an amended capital development plan to the Board of Regents finance committee, asking that its plan for a $120-million project to build an arena to be used by hockey and other sports and a separate Olympic sports training facility be forwarded to the full board for approval.
The next full Regents meeting is scheduled for April 2-3 in Tucson. If approved, the project construction start is scheduled for November 2020 with completion in August 2022. ASU’s new plans or timetable for renovating Desert Financial Arena are not yet known.
ASU athletic officials are not commenting about the new project until after approval from the full Board of Regents.
