Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Friday night that he has signed action that will change unemployment guidelines and extend the deadline to file state taxes.
The deadline for 2019 taxes will now be July 15 instead of April 15, the same change for federal tax returns that Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced Friday.
Unemployment benefit guidelines have also been temporarily altered.
Ducey signed an executive order to waive the one-week waiting period after an employee loses a job before applying for unemployment benefits. The work search requirement was also waived.
Employers will not see an increase in payment to the unemployment insurance fund for these employees.
“The state of Arizona will continue to take proactive measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 and protect public health,” Ducey said in a statement. “These are important steps to get help to Arizonans out of work and struggling to make ends meet because of COVID-19. These are just some steps out of many we will continue to take to support Arizonans in need during this time — and Arizona will get through this together.”
