Buckeye’s mayor is retiring. Here’s who’s running for his seat and for 3 city council seats

Buckeye will have a new mayor as political mainstay Jackie Meck has chosen not to run for reelection.

Meck, 78, was born and raised in Buckeye. He’s been an institution in the suburb off Interstate 10 southwest of Phoenix for decades. Councilman Eric Orsborn, who represents District 6 which includes Verrado, is so far the only person to file paperwork to run for mayor.

Three City Council members are up for reelection:

Tony Youngker, District 1, just south of I-10 from Miller Road to the city’s western edge.

Jeanine Guy, District 2, which stretches south of the Estrella Mountains.

Michelle Hess, District 3, south of I-10 to the city’s eastern edge.

So far, only Hess has filed the paperwork to run for reelection.
